In our collection of Greek art busts from the plaster cast gallery there is a reproduction of the bust of Zeus, made of antique patinated white plaster, suitable only for indoor placement.
The original statue is made of bronze, is about 2 meters high and is kept at the National Archaeological Museum of Athens. The work dates back to around 480 BC. It depicts either Zeus throwing a thunderbolt or Poseidon throwing a trident. The sculpture was found in the sea in 1926 near Cape Artemision.
