LS 404 Amazon Mattei h. cm. 190

In our collection of classical statues there is the statue of the Amazon, made of antique patinated white resin, suitable only for indoor use.

The Amazon represented by Phidias has her right arm raised above her head and with her hand she grasps the upper end of a bow. Her left arm is stretched along her side and clutches a quiver. She then wears a short chiton and a pair of sandals. Her left breast is uncovered. Today we can only admire Roman copies of the sculpture and the Mattei Amazon is preserved at the Pio-Clementino Museum in Rome.
