RID 26 Statue of Antinous Farnese h. cm. 70
In our collection of classical statues there is the reduction of the statue of the Farnese Antinous, made of antique patinated white resin, suitable only for indoor placement.
The original work is preserved at the National Archaeological Museum of Naples. It was found in Rome following excavations commissioned by Pope Paul III. In 1786, King Ferdinand IV of Bourbon had the sculpture transferred to Naples along with the rest of the Farnese collection present in the Farnese Palace in Rome.
Following the death of Antinous, Emperor Hadrian dedicated numerous sculptures to the young boy.
