LS 497 Statue Germanicus (Marcellus) h. cm. 190
In our collection of classical statues there is a reproduction of the statue of Germanicus (Marcellus), made of antique patinated white resin, suitable only for indoor use.
The statue depicts Marcus Claudius Marcellus in the guise of Hermes Chthonius, god of the dead. The original work is made of white marble and is about 180 centimeters high, it was made in 20 BC, shortly after his death. It was probably commissioned to Cleomenes of Athens by his uncle Augustus.
Marcellus is portrayed naked while holding a draped tunic on his left arm that falls to the ground and rests on a tortoise shell. His right arm is raised and probably held a laurel wreath in his hand.
