LR 178 Bas-relief Athena Pergamon h. cm. 92x150
In our collection of bas-reliefs there is the sculpture relief depicting Athena Pergamon, made of antique patinated white resin, suitable for indoor placement and ready to be hung on the wall.
The king of Pergamon Eumenes II had the Pergamon Altar erected to celebrate the victory of Attalos over the Galatians. It is a monumental work dedicated to Zeus and Athena. The remains of the altar were discovered around the mid-nineteenth century by the German engineer Carl Humann. In 1878 archaeological excavations began which allowed the structure of the altar and the sculpted marble slabs that decorated it to be discovered. These components of the altar were dismantled and transported to Berlin, where they were used to make a reconstruction, visible at the Pergamon Museum .
